There used to be a discernible difference between the two
parties and I suppose there still is.
It is clear that the Democrats have no substantive position on any
issue. That was the argument I used in
the 2004 election when I came across a Kerry supporter. I would simply ask a few questions about his
basic positions and when one couldn’t answer any question I then inquired as
to why they were supporting the junior senator from Massachusetts.
After recently reading an article about the House leadership
pushing fiscal discipline as a talking point for their minions, and finding
that laughable, I began to think of issues they could use. To my surprise and chagrin I discovered
there aren’t any. As a party the
Republicans have become as vacuous as the Dems in the idea battle.
I politically grew up in the Reagan era. That period was truly a battle of
ideas. Over the years when Republicans
stuck to their core ideas, and PRACTICED them, they won. When they don’t, they lose.
The GOP, as a whole, needs to quickly recover from their
cranial-rectal inversion or their only hope will be the Dems being even more
inane than them.
